We had 3 local girls wrestlers bring home state championships at the Iowa High School Girls Wrestling State Tournament yesterday. Autumn Elsbury of South Tama got a 2nd period pinfall win over Isabella Taylor of Anamosa in the Championship Match at 170 to bring home the title, while a pair of Nevada Cubs shared similar success. Ashlyn Leslie (110) pinned Nora Buckes of Ankeny in just 20 seconds to seal the victory, while her Cub teammate Mackenzie Arends (235) notched a 4-1 decision win over Ella Brown of Cedar Rapids Kennedy to bring home a title of her own. Congratulations to Autumn, Ashlyn, and Mackenzie as well as all other athletes who competed at the Girls State Wrestling Championship this week.
