Following a 53-10 thrashing of Des Moines East, the Marshalltown Bobcats advanced into the second round of regional 4 of the 5A playoffs. Their reward was a date with 4th ranked Ankeny Centennial. The Jaguars wasted little time proving they are more than deserving of that rank. A 33-2 explosion in the first quarter boosted by their full court press and elite speed proved to be enough. The Cats couldn’t get a footing in the first half as they trailed 54-6 at the break. In the second half, the Cats found some basket here and there, led by senior Ellie Hughes with 6 points, but with the running clock and persistent Jaguar team, the Cats fell by a final score of 68-17. This year marked the first time since 2011 that the Marshalltown girls found a win in the postseason, but still that elusive 10th win drought will extend another year as the season ends with a record of 9-14.
