In their first action in nearly two weeks following cancellations, the Bobcats showed little to no signs of rust, at least on the offensive side of the ball. A flurry of early three-pointers pushed the Cats out in front 17-12 to end the first, and they’d maintain that advantage all the way to the break when they’d lead it 33-29. The third quarter was all Cats and was capped off by a Jacob Hayes three to put the cats up 11 with just one quarter to play. The Cats would get the lead to 12 at 54-42 before the Riverhawks found an answer. Some open looks from three and some tough baskets in the paint later and suddenly this postseason edition of the rivalry heated up. A steal and transition three got the Riverhawks back within one with just seconds to go, but a pair of Hayes free throws and a defensive stop later and the Cats survived the Mason City surge, 62-59. Marshalltown will now head over to Linn-Mar to take on the second-ranked Lions on Friday night.
