The Marshalltown Bobcat boys basketball team traveled east tonight to take on the 2nd-ranked Linn-Mar Lions in the second round of the postseason. Winner would head on to the Substate final to take on the Dowling Catholic Maroons. It was a tough fight from the Cats who struggled early, falling behind 10-2, but a late surge and some great defense down low on leading scorer Davis Kern had the Cats down just 12-8 to close the first quarter. Unfortunately for the Cats, Kern could only be held in check for so long as an offensive eruption broke open the second quarter where the Bobcats would head into the break down 37-16. The second half was more of the same from Kern and the Lions, and despite a strong quarter end from Kyle Smith, the Cats still found themselves in a massive 57-30 hole with just one quarter to go. Linn-Mar would go on to extend the lead and roll to the win, 83-48 and now sits just one game away from the state tournament. Marshalltown ends the year 7-15 and will look to next year where the Cats could return 4 of their 5 primary starters.
