In 2024, the Marshalltown Police Department had 94 cases classified under fraud. One of those cases started back in November, when a local non-profit came to the Marshalltown Police Department suspecting one member of their organization was stealing from them.
That is Marshalltown Police Captain, Sadie Weekley. At the beginning of March, the Marshalltown Police Department released a report that April McKibbin had been arrested for Theft and Forgery. The report said she had stolen from two different local non-profits. One of those organizations was the Bobcat Booster Club.
When KFJB reached out for a comment they directed us to their lawyer who has not responded to our efforts. The Booster Club sent out a letter to their members which says, “Unfortunately we have learned that a member of our Board was misappropriating funds. That individual has since resigned and is currently facing criminal charges. We want to assure you that the remaining members of the Bobcat Booster Club Boar have worked diligently to reinforce our polices and procedures to prevent something like this from occurring in the future.”
Another organization that McKibbin was heavily involved with was the After Prom organization. When asked for comment, no one from the After Prom has gotten back to KFJB. Neither the After Prom or the Booster Club are associated with the School District. Captain Weekley gives a suggestion for anyone dealing with finances in a non-profit organization.
Capt. Weekley says for detective work, fraud cases are one of the largest categories they deal with.
