According to the National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 24 men will experience rape or attempted rape in their lifetime. That same survey found that more than 47% of women and 23% of men have experienced some form of unwanted sexual contact in their lifetime. These were the numbers shared at the Marshall County Board of Supervisors meeting Wednesday morning by County Attorney Jordan Gaffney. As such, the board signed a proclamation regarding April 2025 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Marshall County. In this proclamation, it is stated “we must work together to educate our community about what can be done to prevent sexual assault and how to support survivors.” It also adds that “the county encourages survivors and their families to seek assistance from appropriate survivor services organizations including ACCESS, LUNA, Monsoon, and other local programs and state coalitions. The ACCESS Sexual Abuse Crisis Hotline is 1-800-203-3488.”
