Early Monday morning, the Marshalltown Fire Department was dispatched to the 1900 block of S 5th Avenue for a structure fire. Once on scene, fire crews found a single-family home with a fire showing through the roof and all of the windows on the main floor. Wind gusts were up to nearly 35 mph, which made battling the fire difficult.

Multiple hand lines were used to contain the fire along with the vehicle mounted master stream. At the time of the fire, the residents were not present and no one was injured in this incident. The fire department was on scene for about 3 hours and the Marshalltown Fire Department was assisted by Marshalltown Police, Alliant Energy, and UnityPoint EMS. This fire is still under investigation.
