It was a tall task for the Marshalltown boys soccer team as they took on the Ames Little Cyclones in the Highway 30 Rivalry Game Friday night at Leonard Cole Field. The Little Cyclones came into the game 5-0 on the year, having not allowed a goal on the season. Unfortunately for the Bobcats, that trend would hold true as the Cats couldn’t find the back of the net through the stifling defense. The Cats fell by a score of 1-0, with goalkeeper Chris Nunez allowing just one goal, a free kick from the edge of the penalty box in the first half. It’s a quick turnaround for the Cats who will now head down to Valley to take on Millard West, a high school in Omaha, Nebraska, later today.

As for girls soccer, it was also a tight loss in the rivalry against Ames. The Cats found the back of the net in the first half, but it was not enough to overcome the early 2-0 deficit. The final score was 2-1 with the lone Marshalltown goal coming from Lilyia Christen. The girls will have a little bit of time to sit on their first loss since April 8th as they’ll have to wait all the way until Thursday to take on Waterloo West at Leonard Cole Field right here in Marshalltown.
