Monday, the Marshalltown Police Department arrested Rachel Nelson-Loupee for a theft charge. Nelson-Loupee has been accused of embezzling around $10,000 from the Marshalltown Education Association, sometimes referred to as the teacher’s union. Marshalltown Community School District Superintendent, Dr. Theron Schutte, was in the KFJB studio yesterday.
Dr. Schutte says the school districts used to collect the dues for the Teachers Union but a collective bargaining law has disallowed that. That makes the teachers union completely separate from the school district. Nelson-Loupee has not been fired from the school district.
Nelson-Loupee is a business teacher for the Marshalltown High School. She has a preliminary hearing set for May 9th.
