Yesterday, a Marshalltown man was arrested for over 300 counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor. The Marshalltown Police Department started an investigation into the possibility of a man in possession of child pornography back in January of 2024, according to a press release. In February of 2024, a search warrant for the residence of the suspect was obtained and served and evidence was seized during the search.

The Marshalltown Police Department then reviewed the large amount of data collected over the next 12 months. The Police Department then arrested Michael Lynn Benson, age 65, on April 24th. Benson has been charged with 329 total counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, which is a class D felony.

Benson is being held in the Marshall County Jail.
