The Marshalltown Bobcat boys soccer team hosted the Fort Dodge Dodgers in an Iowa Alliance North Conference matchup Friday night. The Cats, coming off a 3-1 win over Mason City found the back of the net 3 times in the opening 10 minutes to set the tone and essentially ice the game early. Marshalltown would hold the shutout for the entire game while finding their 10th and final goal with just under 13 minutes remaining, ending the game in the Cats’ second mercy rule win of the season.

Girls varsity tennis put their 9-0 undefeated record on the line Friday night as they had to battle not only the Ankeny Hawks, but also Mother Nature. Following a lengthy rain delay, the teams headed north to Ames to play at an indoor facility. The teams were all knotted up at 3 a piece after singles, but the Cats’ took control of the match in doubles, willing four of the five matches and taking home their 10th win, 7-4. The girls will next have their makeup match at Ames in the Highway 30 Rivalry on Monday.

While the boys varsity tennis team was off Friday night, the JV team hosted their annual Top Gun Trophy match against Cedar Falls. The JV boys don’t often get a crack at playing singles, but they made the most of it going 5-1 before the doubles teams took the court. The Cats, needing just one win to retain the trophy, got it along with a couple others, taking home the 8-3 win. Boys tennis will be back in action on Monday when they host 1A Top 10 ranked Pella.
