As we say goodbye to week 4 of Phase One of the renovations downtown, the sidewalk in front of 19 S. Center St. is now open. Boho Blonde and Co and Ink Factory Tattoo Studio are fully accessible form the front entrance. United Bank and Trust, Allied Insurance, Pentz Appliance and TV, and other nearby businesses remain open. In an update from the Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce, crews successfully extended the water main into the Main Street intersection and continued work to the west. They say this will allow better water flow and water pressure throughout the heart of downtown Marshalltown. In addition to the work that was completed, crews also discovered a historic cistern reaching about 19 feet deep and 14 feet in diameter. It was then documented and carefully filled with flowable concrete which will both protect it while bolstering the integrity of future roadwork in the area.
