The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is investigating a diesel fuel spill in Dallas County. According to the DNR, the spill happened early Saturday morning at an agricultural site near Dallas Center. According to a KCCI report, 4,000 gallons of fuel was spilled. The DNR says they thought initially the spill was contained on site in a nearby pond, however residents in Waukee later reported “strong fuel odors” near Little Walnut Creek. As of now, no dead fish have been found along the affected part of the creek and the DNR says there is no health threat to the public, though they say that residents may smell fuel and should stay out of the water as a precaution. The exact cause of the leak and spill remains under investigation.
