Iowa State Auditor, Rob Sand, officially announced he will be running for Governor of Iowa in 2026. Sand is currently the only statewide elected Democrat, but he does not want to focus on that.
Sand, who is a lawyer by trade, started his statewide work as an Assistant Attorney General starting in 2010. He stayed in that office until 2017 when he ran for State Auditor
Sand is no stranger to standing up for Iowans, which is what he feels public servants should be doing.
Sand says he would be in favor of restoring that ability in the Auditors office if he were Governor. With the next fiscal year’s budget calling to withdraw nearly 900 million from cash reserves, Sand feels this is not sustainable and Iowa can find other revenue without raising taxes.
Sand truly wants to put party aside, he doesn’t want to focus on redder or bluer but focused on better and truer.
