Friday, the Marshalltown Bobcats Girls Golf team’s own Natalie Henson came home with a third-place finish at the Girls Individual State Tournament. After sitting in 7th after day one with a +2 (74) score, Henson improved up to a -1 (71) to leapfrog all the way up to a podium finish of a +1 (145). Henson finished just 3 strokes back of second place finisher Ainsley Wilson of Iowa City West and just 4 strokes back of State Champion Morgan Rupp out of Linn-Mar. With the finish, Henson picks up her third State Tournament medal in four years of making it.

Henson wasn’t the only Bobcat playing on the biggest stage Friday as the girls tennis duo of Kate Sandvick and Kennedy Feldman would compete in the Girls State doubles tournament. They’d drop their opening match 6-2, 6-4 to Iowa City West before taking down Urbandale in a super tiebreaker to keep their day alive. In their third match they’d head to a third set once again against Waterloo West, but they’d eventually fall, ending their day and their season.

Meanwhile the Bobcat Boys Baseball team took on the Grundy Center Spartans Friday night at home looking to bounce back from their 12-5 loss to Newton. Unfortunately for the Cats, the Grundy Center offense posed a serious threat. Following a quick 0-run inning from both teams, the Spartans stepped on the gas, sending 9 runs across over the next few innings to pull out to a 9-1 lead. It was then in the top of the 6th inning when they’d put the pedal to the metal hanging 8 more runs and ending the game with a 17-1 win. The Cats fell to 3-2 on the year and will look to get back on track on Monday when they travel to Ames for a Highway 30 Rivalry doubleheader. The Little Cyclones have already run quite the gauntlet to start the year as they’ve suffered losses to Johnston, Waukee, Valley, and a split Southeast Polk while defeating Mason City.
