Things change on Iowa Roads starting July 1st as the Iowa Legislature passed a hands-free law for Iowa Drivers. Starting July 1st, smartphones and devices can only be used by a driver if it is in hands free mode. Marshall County Sheriff Joel Phillips explains how the law works.
Since the law has passed, Sheriff Phillips and his deputies have been trying to educate the public about the new law. He says they have received a few questions
Some cars are not decked out with all the bells and whistles, my 21 year old car does not have hands free mode. Sheriff Phillips suggests a Bluetooth device to pair with my phone if I need to use it while driving.
The new law will officially start July 1st and the first 6 months, law enforcement will be giving out warnings to help educate the public.
