Rotary Club is one of the largest service clubs in Marshalltown and current president, Julie Hitchens, will be passing the gavel at the end of the month to the next president, Erin McGregor. Hitchens says membership was a focus during her term.
Hitchens says they started doing a new orientation, implemented a mentorship program, and worked to create a more welcoming environment for new members. Hitchens learned that most service club membership are down roughly 60% over the last 20 years.
Another goal during her term as president was to better understand community needs.
Hitchens says one of the projects they did was installing a drinking fountain at Timber Creek Park. The Rotary Club also focused on food insecurity and held quarterly food drives this past year.
