Today, a Military escort will be happening up Highway 65, from Des Moines to Iowa Falls. The escort will depart from the Des Moines International Airport around 7:15 this morning and head to Linn’s Funeral Home in Iowa Falls. The escort will be carrying the remains of Corporal Melvin L. Huff, who was a gunner on a B-52 Bomber and went missing with his aircraft on January 20th, 1945.
Huff enlisted in 1943 after finishing his junior year of high school at Eldora High School. Through DNA testing his remains were identified last year. Finally, 82 years later, he is coming home. The planned route will be taking US Highway 65 to Linn’s Funeral Home in Iowa Falls. People are encouraged to wave on an overpass as the escort travels north this morning.
