Marshalltown Baseball was back in action Friday night as they took to the road to take on the Waterloo East Trojans. Game one saw a pair of terrific outings by the pitchers and defenses as they worked into the 6th inning knotted at 1 apiece. The Trojans found a pair of runs in the bottom of the 6th to take the 3-1 win, and the second round of the double-header was all Trojans as they ended it 12-2 in the 5th inning. Pitcher Maddox Harn no-hit the Bobcats as all their scoring was done off miscues in the early going. Following the losses, the Cats fell to 6-21 on the year and will next take on the Mason City Riverhawks on July 2nd.
Bobcat Softball hosts the Bobcat Classic this weekend out at the Marshalltown Community College Softball diamond. Friday, the Cats took on Davenport Assumption and it was not a pretty sight for the hosts as they managed just a few hits in the 13-0 loss, but bounced back to take down BCLUW by a 9-0 final. Today they’ll continue the event at 9:30am against Colfax-Mingo and at 11:15am against Grundy Center. The Cats currently sit at 11-18 on the year and it was announced yesterday that their sub-state match will be against the Lincoln Railsplitters at home on July 10th.
Other local scores from the diamonds on Friday include Grundy Center picking up wins in both sports taking down AGWSR 8-0 in softball and 7-3 in baseball. Meanwhile West Marshall topped East Marshall at home in baseball 7-2, while Trojan Softball picked up a pair of wins at the Don Bosco Annual Softball Tournament, 4-3 over Waverly-Shell Rock and 4-2 over Maquoketa. Baxter took down GMG in baseball on Little League Recognition Night 13-8, while North Tama softball picked up their 4th win of the year 10-6 over Colo-Nesco.
