Today is the day, the new hands-free law goes into effect today in Iowa. This law says drivers in Iowa are not allowed to use their smart devices while driving. Drivers can use hands-free technology or Bluetooth if they need to use their phone. Jose Raya is the General Manager for US Cellular in Marshalltown. He says all smartphones have a “Focus Mode” or “Do Not Disturb”
Raya says every phone has this setting; some apps will automatically go into “Driving mode” like GPS maps if it senses you are on the road. He says these features are all about eliminating the need to check your phone
If you have any questions about your smart device, bring it in to your provider and they should be able to assist in finding any of these settings. Law Enforcement will be giving warnings for the first 6 months of the new law to educate the public.
