A study conducted by personal injury lawyers at Jordan Law, shows Iowa ranks 3rd highest for percentage of dangerous bridges. Iowa has a large network of bridges with 96,348 across the state. Of those bridges, 19.33% or 18,626 bridges are in poor condition according to the study. Iowa’s bridge safety ratings have decreased, likely due to harsh weather conditions and funding challenges across counties.
Iowa has the 6th most bridges of any state across the nation. Texas has the most with over 200,000 bridges, followed by Illinois, California, Kansas, and Missouri. While Texas has the most bridges in the nation they also have the safest with 1.32% are considered in poor condition.
