Yesterday morning, Marshalltown Police Officers and medics were dispatched to May Street for a reported stabbing.  When officers arrived on scene, they found an adult make victim suffering from stab wounds.  The victim was cared for and transported by EMS to Unity Point Hospital and, due to life threatening injuries, they were eventually transported to a Des Moines Hospital.

A second person was on scene when police arrived, 38-year-old Derek Wilkins, who was taken into custody.  After further investigation, Wilkins was arrested for Attempt to Commit Murder and Domestic Abuse Assault Using a Deadly Weapon.  This investigation is on-going.  The Marshalltown Police Department was assisted by the Marshalltown Fire Department, Unity Point EMS, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
