During public comment at the Marshalltown City Council Meeting last night, Austin Gillis, Director of Marshalltown’s Animal Rescue League, spoke about the feral cat problem in Marshalltown. Gillis supports the trap, neuter, and release method when it comes to dealing with feral cats.
Gillis says that when trap and kill is used, it cleans up an area with cats but eventually more cats move in drawn in by the same food sources and shelter options.
When cats are sterilized and vaccinated the population will stabilize over time and eventually shrink.
Gillis says Trap, Neuter, and Release is done across the nation
Gillis left the Council with one final thought
After Gillis spoke, the Iowa State Director for Humane World for Animals spoke in support of Trap, Neuter, and Release.
