Monday night the Marshalltown City Council discussed the use of Local Option Sales Tax to fund an EMS feasibility study. The total cost of the study is just under $60,000 and the city cover 50% of the costs. Fire Chief Christopher Cross explains why this is needed.
A question was asked if the public can be apart of these conversations with the commission who is looking into the problem
The Commission has asked for the study to give multiple options on what could be done with Emergency Medical Services in Marshall County. Chief Cross reminds everyone that EMS is not an essential service cities must provide according to Iowa code, unlike Police and Fire service.
Chief Cross says that EMS has been operating on a handshake agreement within Marshall County since its inception.
