Thursday 7th August 2025

This weekend shapes up to be one of the largest sporting weekends of the year as the Iowa Speedway welcomes both the top 2 series of the sport to Newton. First up, later today, the Xfinity Series will run the fastest short track in America for the 22nd time since 2009. Over the course said races, the coach, Joe Gibbs, has the most wins as an owner, taking home 7 trophies, most recently with Christopher Bell in 2019. Roush Fenway has 4 wins at the 7/8ths mile track while JR Motorsports and Penske both share three wins a piece and Richard Childress Racing and Stewart-Haas both have one. The Xfinity Drivers will take the green flag for the HyVee Perks 250 at 3:30 this afternoon.

Moving up to the Cup series, it was Ryan Blaney, driver of the #12 Penske Ford who took home the inaugural race in the top series of NASCAR last year on Father’s Day weekend, leading 201 of the 350 laps. It was Hendrick Motorsports’ Kyle Larson who won the pole last year, before a wreck and tire issues took him out of the running early on. His teammates, William Byron and Chase Elliot picked up the slack finishing in the top three while Ricky Stenhouse Jr. came home fifth and two-time Xfinity Winner Christopher Bell came home in fourth. Other drivers to look out for this year are Denny Hamlin who has four wins on the year and Bubba Wallace who just last week kissed the bricks at Indianapolis and won his way into the playoffs by winning one of the crown jewels of the sport. The green flag of the Iowa Corn 350 will drop at 2:30 on Sunday afternoon. Both races will be aired on KIX 101.1
