On Tuesday, August 26th, the Marshalltown Police Department got a report of a gunshot victim arriving at the Unity Point Health Emergency Room around 8pm. Officers spoke with the victim at the Emergency Room and learned that the victim was shot at Nicholson Ford Park located on Marion St. in Marshalltown. Through their conversations officers learned of another victim who was struck in the head with a handgun and both people had items stolen from them.
Through the description victims gave officers they were able to describe the vehicle and the FLOCK cameras were able to find the vehicle quickly. After search warrants were conducted, Marshalltown Police Officers arrested Nicholas Lee Olivares, age 19 of Aplington. He has been charged with Attempt to Commit Murder, 1st Degree Robbery, Willful Injury, Assault While Participating in a Felony, and Goin Armed with Intent.
The Marshalltown Police say it appears the victims in this case were specifically targeted and it was not a random event.
