Hunting seasons are gearing up for the big game seasons later this year, right now squirrel, rabbit, and dove seasons are happening in Iowa. Mick Klemesrud, Information Specialist with the Iowa DNR, says there are maps for people online of public land where hunting is allowed.
He says they also have a list of rules and restrictions, like which type of weapon people can hunt with. People can get a lot of information from the interactive map.
Klemesrud talks about a newer program called IHAP, Iowa Habitat and Access Program
He says there is about 600,000 acres of publicly accessible land for hunters. Hunters can also find all the information about when seasons run and how to get tags. Find everything you need to know about hunting in Iowa at IowaDNR.gov
