September is Preparedness Month and Marshall County Emergency Management Coordinator, Kim Elder, says it is a good time to review their 3 steps.  Be Aware, Make a Plan, Build a Kit, and Get Involved.  Elder talks about Preparedness.

When making a plan try to think through all of the situations that could happen.  Weather is the most common, thunderstorms, tornadoes, etc.  When thinking through scenarios can lead to the next step, build a kit.

She says people should check those kits 2 or 3 times a year to make sure they are stocked and in good condition for when you need them.  A barrier to being aware or getting involved is knowing where to go to find information.  Elder talks about Alert Iowa as a way to stay informed.

Elder says the best way to sign up is to search for Alert Iowa on google.  She says some local information will come out from her Facebook page, Marshall County Emergency Management.

That general information could be that the sirens will not be tested today due to the cold temperatures or the possibility of inclement weather. Take this month to make sure you and your home is ready for any emergency, Winter is Coming.
