3pm Update

As of 3pm Sunday, there are now 52 cases of Legionnaire’s Disease in Marshall County.  Kara Warme, Iowa Senator from District 26 and also part of the Health and Human Services Committee, joined the KFJB line on Friday with an update.

Warme is encouraging people to go get tested

Local providers are all able to run tests for Legionnaire’s Disease as it is a simple urine test.  Warme then comments on the reports of cooling towers being tested as a possible source.

Warme says that people should not be afraid to come to Marshalltown.  She reminds listeners that it is not transmitted person to person or in the drinking water.  A long form interview between Marshall County Public Heath Director Sydney Grewell and ER Physician, Dr. Lance VanGundy was posted Friday afternoon to the Marshall County Iowa Public Health Facebook page that reviews legionella, the bacteria that causes Legionnaire’s Disease.
