The Marshalltown Area United Way helps support 30 programs and 25 local agencies.  One of those agencies is YSS, and they have multiple programs supported by the United Way.  County Director, David Hicks, talks about their transitional living program.  They work with 17 – 23-year-olds who stay in their scattered side apartments in town.

Hicks says the number 1 barrier to those seeking housing is finances.  Hicks first job with YSS was Transitional Living Case Manager nearly 29 years ago.

Hicks says their program is about providing stability and setting the person up for success.
