Friday night, State Trooper, Joshua Meggers, who is also a state representative in Grundy County, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries after a high-speed chase of a alleged drunk driver.
The pursuit began at the Casey’s located at 1708 G. Ave. in Grundy Center Friday night. Casey’s employees reported a drunk man at their location and left at a high rate of speed southbound on County Road T-37. The officers lost site of the vehicle multiple times due to dust from gravel roads, but the vehicle kept being spotted driving at a high rate of speed, over 100 mph.
According to the release, the deputies located the vehicle and was able to deploy stop sticks before the vehicle began traveling northbound on Highway 63 towards Hudson. The vehicle continued through the stop sticks and north on 63 until it crossed the center line and hit a with a fully marked Iowa State Patrol Tahoe, which Meggers was driving.
Trooper Meggers was taken to MercyOne in Waterloo for treatment, while the alleged drunk driver was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and clinics. The driver was identified as 24-year-old Cory Devries of Grundy Center. This investigation is on-going.
