Yesterday KFJB had the opportunity to talk with Marshall County Public Health Director Sydney Grewell and check in with Legionnaire’s Disease. She confirms that the case count is at 74, which has been the total since September 25th. Grewell says that is good news as it looks like we are moving pass this outbreak, but that does not mean no more cases will ever occur.
There’s hope that this outbreak is a good reminder to businesses that own cooling towers and people who have fountains and spas, that they should practice good water management.
One sample that was collected from a cooling tower did produce Legionella bacteria
Grewell says we may never know exactly which tower the bacteria was coming from but seeing the case count flatten, she is confident the remediation processes worked.
