Wednesday Night the Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce held a Candidate Forum for the City of Marshalltown Council races. The four At-Large candidates each spoke about the housing problem in Marshalltown. Here is incumbent Jeff Schneider who says two things out of the City’s control is building costs and the number of developers.
Schnieder wants to attract more good builders to Marshalltown to help develop housing. Candidate Tim Bradbury spoke about getting to the root of the problem.
Sue Cahill spoke next and she remembers doing a housing study in 2017 when she was on Council previously. She focused her time talking about the ripple effect with senior living.
Finally, Scott McLain talked about all the red tape involved in housing development. He wants to eliminate the red tape to make it easier to build houses.
The entire hour long Forum is available on demand on KFJB-TV’s YouTube and Facebook pages. Next week KFJB will begin airing 10 minute interviews with each candidate on Open Forum and Central Iowa Today. Each interview will be posted at 1230kfjb.com
