Housing in Marshalltown was discussed at the Candidate Forum last Wednesday. Candidate for Marshalltown Mayor, Gary Thompson, says people move to town because they have a job here. His focus would be on getting developers to build starter homes.
Thompson brings up the rental rate in Marshalltown.
The other candidate for Mayor of Marshalltown, Mike Ladehoff, says there is a study on housing happening and the city council is waiting on the results.
Ladehoff is suggesting an idea that has worked in South Bend, Indiana. They do what is called a Template.
Ladehoff says that the money in building houses is in the top end big homes, not the small starter homes. His idea to get those built is to help people build their own with the Templates. The Marshalltown City Election is coming up on Tuesday, November 4th. Early voting is happening now at the Election Center, 107 S 1st Ave. from 8am – 4:30pm
