The City and School Board election is coming up on Tuesday, November 4th. In Marshalltown’s Ward 1, only 1 candidate filed the paperwork to run, Marco Yapez-Gomez. Yapez-Gomez has been speaking at City Council meetings for nearly a year and giving his thoughts and opinions on what the current council is doing.
One issue that Yapez-Gomez spoke on was the rezoning for the plot of land at the corner of 3rd Ave. and State Street. It was changed from Urban Core to Mixed Use and McDonalds is looking at building a spot.
Yapez-Gomez wants to dig deeper as to why no other business has wanted to invest in that location in 8 years.
He says that there are tons of historical buildings that were 1 story previously in downtown. Current zoning laws would not allow for them to rebuild those buildings today.
