Some items we put away for the winter time do use a lithium-ion battery and those should not sit on a charger all winter long.  Marshalltown Fire Chief Christopher Cross gives a couple suggestions when storing lithium-ion batteries for the winter.

He says it is good to take the battery off of the charger and let it naturally cycle out over the winter.  He also notes that people should be cautious when using space heaters, although, he says technology has advanced for the good.

He says the fire department tries to put out tips and tricks ahead of whatever season is coming on their Facebook page and city website.
