The Marshall County Conservation is looking for interested volunteers to help with a bird count coming up on December 18th. This is the annual Audubon Bird Count and has been happening in Iowa for over 100 years. County Conservation Director Emily Herring explains what volunteers would do.
Herring says doing the same area around the same time every year helps gather great historical data for that area. People are encouraged to count birds all day long and report back to the Conservation Department.
Truly anyone can participate as Herring says people can watch the bird feeders at their home and report. People need to register ahead of time so they have the proper documents to make their report. Reach out to the Grimes Farm Nature Center to learn more.
