This week, law enforcement across the state have partnered with the Governors Traffic Safety Bureau for a special enforcement for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Marshall County Sheriff, Joel Phillips, wants to remind drivers that Iowa has a new law where people cannot use their phones while driving.
Last year in Marshall County during the Thanksgiving Special Enforcement, they made 225 stops, mostly due to speeding but a few impaired drivers. Sheriff Phillips reminds people to plan out their entire night from leaving your home to how you will arrive back safely.
Part of the special enforcement, they will be looking for those speeding and Sheriff Phillips says the 4 lane highways they have been seeing a lot of drivers speeding lately.
The Special Traffic Enforcement period started yesterday and will run through Sunday, November 30th.
