Announced yesterday by the Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown, they are temporarily suspending animal intakes while the shelter undergoes a full sanitization process.  The Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown has learned that two puppies recently donated to the shelter tested positive for Parvovirus.

Executive Director, Austin Gillis says in the release, “All puppies were vaccinated and healthy at the time of adoption showing no symptoms.  The moment Parvo was diagnosed; we immediately engaged out veterinarian and have remained in continuous contact to ensure our response follows best practices.”  Parvovirus is a highly resilient virus that can survive in many environments including cold weather.

The ARL of Marshalltown has taken multiple steps; immediate consultation with their vet, full shelter sanitization, temporary suspension of intakes, and continued public education.  Anyone with questions can reach out directly to the Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown.  Learn more at arlmarshalltown.com
