Last night was the final City Council meeting this year and David Hicks, YSS Marshall County Director, was there to give the MPACT quarterly report.  MPACT, or Marshalltown Police and Community Team, has two advocates who assist the police department with situations that calls for a social worker.

The top three calls for service are; Homelessness at 28%, Mental Health 20%, and Family Conflict 18%.

The secret sauce with MPACT is pairing local services with individuals who are struggling

Beyond that initial contact, the MPACT advocates will follow up with each situation and sometimes multiple follow ups to make sure the situation has been resolved.

Hicks reminds the city council that behind all of those numbers are real people who are struggling and getting the help they need.  MPACT funding is set to run out in 2026 and Hicks suggested looking into using money from the Opioid Settlement for this program.
