Last night was the first Marshalltown City Council meeting of 2026 and towards the beginning of the meeting the City held a moment of silence for Marshall County Supervisor Kevin Goodman as he passed away last week. City Administrator Carol Webb announced yesterday that Marshalltown and Marshall County will lower flags to half-staff to honor Supervisor Goodman.
While flag-lowering orders are often issued by the Governor or President, local governments may also lower flags at City and County facilities to recognize the passing of local public officials whose service has had a significant impact on the community.
The City and County have chosen to do so in this instance to honor Supervisor Goodman’s service and to express condolences to his family, colleagues, and the broader community. Flags will remain at half-staff at City and County facilities until the funeral services, after which they will be returned to full staff.
