The USDA says the winter wheat crop has emerged from dormancy in slightly worse condition than a year ago. 53% of the crop is in good to excellent condition, 9% below this time last year, with the worst conditions in the driest parts of the U.S. Plains. 3% of winter wheat has headed, matching the five-year average.

Corn planting is 2% complete, also in-line with the typical pace.

3% of spring wheat is planted, just ahead of average.
