Wisconsin’s top agricultural industry promoter says farmers are already working to improve the environment, but many consumers don’t know that.
Julia Nunes is the current Alice in Dairyland. She says, “I think most people are surprised and they don’t realize how much farmers care about the environment.”
Nunes tells Brownfield a lot has changed over the years in milk production. “The carbon footprint of producing a glass of milk is two-thirds less than it was 70 years ago, so farmers are really increasing the efficiency of their operations.”
Nunes says technology improvements both in the parlor and in the field are constantly changing how farmers operate, which is important because farmers want to pass the farm on to their children and grandchildren.
