An extension field agronomist calls the planting season in east-central Iowa unusual.

Rebecca Vittetoe with Iowa State University suggests a cool and dry spring is not normal.

Usually if we see cool, it’s cool (and) wet conditions. And if we see the dry, it’s usually warm and dry. So it’s just kind of wonky to see the cool and dry conditions.”

She tells Brownfield there’s some uneven emergence because a lot of corn was planted into dry soils.
