A slow-moving disturbance centered over the middle Mississippi Valley will continue to drift eastward, contributing to a broad area of tropically enhanced showers and thunderstorms. Meanwhile, a cold front marching eastward from the Pacific Northwest will begin to interact with the pool of moisture, leading to locally heavy thunderstorms in the north-central U.S. Five-day rainfall totals could reach 1 to 5 inches from the mid-South into the Ohio Valley and middle Atlantic States, while 1- to 2-inch amounts may occur across portions of the northern Plains and far upper Midwest.
