Another quiet start for direct cash cattle trade activity. Bids and asking prices haven’t been fully established. There could be some light, scattered trade develop at some point today, but it’s likely any significant business will wait until midweek or later.
Boxed beef prices were sharply higher at midday on good demand for light offerings. Choice is $5.76 higher at $335.56 and Select is $2.43 higher at $305.98. The Choice/Select spread is $29.58.
At the Joplin Regional Stockyards in Missouri, compared to last week feeder steers and heifers were steady. The USDA says supply was moderate and demand was good. Receipts were up on the week and the year.
