Richard Dean Wagoner passed peacefully at home on September 8, 2021. Memorial services for Richard will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Garwin United Methodist Church in Garwin. He was born to Otha Samuel Wagoner and Grace Irene Holmquist Wagoner in Marshalltown Iowa on May 1, 1928. Richard was the oldest of 5 children, attended country school near Albion Iowa and graduated from Legrand high school in 1946. In 1947 Richard married his high school sweetheart Janet Elaine Long at the Legrand Iowa Friends church.
Richard was a master carpenter and built their first home in Legrand Iowa in 1954. In 1961 they moved to the family farm south of Garwin, Iowa. Richard worked as a welder at Lennox for 38 years and farmed fulltime. He embraced the virtues of hard work and could build or fix anything. He was a faithful member of the United Methodist church for many years.
Richard was preceded in death by his first born son Mark Richard Wagoner and by his beloved wife Janet, his parents and brothers David Wagoner and John Wagoner.
Left to cherish his memory are his two sons, Ted (wife, Pam), Tim (wife, Glenda) and one daughter, Teri and grandchildren Jason (wife Jane), Chris Wagoner, Ryan Edwards and Ramsey Wagoner. Also, great grandchildren Thomas Wagoner, Lillan Wagoner, Eugene Edwards IV, Earon Wagoner and Daphne Wagoner, and brother William Wagoner, his sister Mary Kennedy and many nieces and nephews.
