The Indiana State Board of Animal Health has approved a new vaccine for use in rabbits.

The vaccine is meant to combat rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus Type 2 and is the only one approved by USDA in the U.S. to control the disease.

While the disease has not been diagnosed in Indiana and does not impact human health, it does have a high mortality rate in domestic and wild rabbits.  The RHD virus has currently been reported in 16 states across the western and southwestern U.S.
