A commercial turkey flock in west-central Minnesota has tested positive for low-pathogenic avian influenza.
The Minnesota Board of Animal Health says the H5 strain was identified during routine testing in Kandiyohi County and points out this is not the same virus that caused the 2015 outbreak.
State Veterinarian Dr. Beth Thompson says testing birds before they go to market is standard protocol and when disease is detected, they can hold the flock and work quickly with producers to address it.
