A low-pressure system east of the Carolinas should move inland, maintaining cool, breezy, showery weather along and near the southern Atlantic Coast. Meanwhile, an intensifying storm system over the north-central U.S. will result in additional heavy rain in parts of Montana and the Dakotas, with precipitation ending by Saturday. In the storm’s wake, cooler air will replace an early-season Midwestern heat wave. Hot weather will persist, however, across the South, with triple-digit heat (highs of 100°F or greater) continuing into next week across the southern Plains and Desert Southwest.
